Boys’ Town is a charity started by the Brothers of St. Gabriel and provides residential care, street outreach, fostering, and community and school-based programmes for families, children, and youth-in-need. The organisation helps babies, children, and youth who come from disadvantaged families and may have faced hardship due to various reasons such as financial struggles, family issues, emotional trauma, and abuse. Through their services and programmes, Boys’ Town equips them with the skills they need to become responsible and contributing members of society.
In the early beginning, the aim of the institution was to provide residential services and vocational skills training and education to disadvantaged boys.
Boys' Town has since expanded its scope of services beyond the original aim of its pioneers to include poor and underprivileged youths as well as those who encounter greater difficulties and challenges growing up. Boys’ Town assists those who have behavioural or family-linked challenges as well as those with learning difficulties in our 'alternative schooling' programme which is a competency-based learning framework. New services such as fostering, street outreach and clinical intervention were set up in the last few years to steer the organisation towards becoming a one-stop children and youth centre.
In 2016 Boys’ Town launched a new service in the form of an the Adventure Centre. It perfectly complements Boys’ Town’s existing “Sports for Character” programme which uses sports activities to shape personality and psychology efficacy, now also offering adventure therapy, a very effective way to reach to youth-in-need. The centre will run as a social enterprise which should become self-sustaining through the income it generates offering services e.g. together with Big Heroes and to individual customers.
Boys' Town is a member of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS) and Caritas Singapore and a registered charity with the status of Institution of A Public Character (IPCs) with the Charity Council.
The Executive Director, Irene Loi, under the advice of the St. Gabriel’s Foundation and the Board of Governors is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the aims, objectives and traditions of Boys' Town.
